BLueRibbon
I am a 20 year old non-offending paedophile. I am tired of the shameful nature of British society, which claims to be free and equal, yet supports the harassment of anyone who is attracted to children, regardless of the behaviour of the minor-attracted person.
It is highly unreasonable to discriminate against someone on the basis of their sexuality; most people are judged based on how they behave. Paedophiles are the only members of British society who are oppressed because of what they think.
I am also angered by the fact that people who view indecent images [definition] are sentenced more harshly than people who commit contact offences. The possession of indecent images is an offence which, as defined by British law, punishes people for “offending the recognised standards of propriety“. The fact that this is considered more worthy of punishment than the actual sexual abuse of children exposes the true nature of a sick society, which only cares about who people are and not what they do.
People claim that paedophiles can’t be trusted around children, citing unrepresentative examples of paedophiles who have committed contact offences against children in their “care”. While I disagree strongly with those who commit such offences - and feel sympathy for the victims of those offences - I do not believe that these cases should be used to restrict the rights of non-offending paedophiles. Paedophiles who can control themselves should be allowed to work with children, even if their sexuality is known.
I do much reading on the topics of paedophilia, laws relating to paedophiles, sexuality in general, and the criminology of child sexual abuse, with the intention of providing rational counter-arguments to the illogical yet culturally engrained claims used to support the oppression of non-offending paedophiles.
